Hi. My full name is Minh Trang Nguyen. I am a 20-year-old Vietnamese girl.
I am a sophomore international student at Douglas College, majoring in Bachelor of Business Administration for my first 2 years, concentration in Hospitality Management for the upcoming 2 years.
My long-term objective is to travel and experience as much as I can. I desire to encounter a new environment, culture, and nation at every milestone in my life. I'm in the middle of this wonderful journey. I have got such a great opportunity to spend my high school time in the U.S. and my current bachelor's degree in Canada. My upcoming target is to get a master's degree in a new country which I have never been to before. Also, I have a strong sense of self-motivation and discipline. Whatever it takes, I always improve my skills by learning something new.

My life
Prior to moving to the USA in 2019, I spent 16 years in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where I was born and raised. After two years of high school in Houston, Texas, USA, I made the decision to take a year off from school in order to appreciate the beautiful life I have.
Taking a break helped me understand what I want from the future and what my next move should be. I am currently in Vancouver, Canada, making my future plans.

gap year
my gap year
Spending a whole year for experiencing
Looking back to my gap year, I felt like everything came to me for a reason, and it's really worth. While all my friends continued to study higher after graduating from high school, I took a step of postponing my next future "officially entering university" for a year to live the life I want, to do the things I love. If I could turn back the time, this decision would never be changed.
Internship at Sheraton Hotel
Being trainee for 7 months in the same department with 2 different positions: F&B trainee and F&B Sales trainee.
Working in such a big business group have brought me a while new vision of how an enterprise operates, and how they deliver every seasonal service in order to not only find potential customers but also remain that reputation. During 7 months being a trainee here, I myself got a chance to experience the seasonal change of the working environment including Christmas Eve, Lunar New Year, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid Autumn Festival.
Getting mainly involved in F&B outlet, different food and products are launched in each holiday season. How to impress customers or give them the best experience in each occasion was what I had learnt whilst doing internship there.
Silent Vietnamese sign language class
Taking part in a silent class has brought me such an amazing memory which I have never imagined before. A class where I could not speak out when I needed help, but action and message to draw teacher'attention instead. That all of the learners had to face the same dificulty as microphones had to muted and communicated by hands, not by mouth as usual was the most efficient way for the teacher to understand us. This piece of experience gave me a deeper understanding towards the deaf, about what they had to suffer in normal life and gained my ability to use sign language effectively despite the short time of 3 months.

Volunteer
Volunteer at VEO (Volunteer Education Organization) - Thac Ba Trip
Instead of travelling to a noisy crowded or famous place, I made up my mind to come to highlands of Vietnam- where the ethnic minority group live, to help them improve their life quality as much as possible. Through 2 journeys, although all volunteer had been strangers to each other first, but our goals was the same: bringing something new to the old life of ethnic minority group.
In the trip to Mu Cang Chai, we taught English and first-aid skills for children. Beyond the simple knowledge, what we wanted to deliver was how important going to school was.
Another trip to Thac Ba, we guided and consulted the local how to advertised to develop their tourism. By experiencing and giving comments in some significant handicraft activities such as net sewing as a real traveler, we believed that their communication skill could be gained in order to take advantages their tourism potential ability, to spread it to those who had never known highlands before. Once tourism was developed and focused, their life standard would be gained dramatically.
Since living in highlands remote from urban, they had no idea how to take most advantage of resources to develop tourism and local economy. This is also what we aimed to, in the whole trip.

University of California Riverside & Disney College program
walt disney world resort
Being cast member for 6 months at Disney's Hollywood Studios with role rotation in Quick Service and Merchandise.
Working at Disney's Hollywood Studios during the Disney International College Program from June to December 2023 was an immersive journey into the enchanting world of entertainment and hospitality. As a cast member stationed at Sunset Ranch Market in quick service and Hollywood Boulevard Sales in merchandise, I was at the heart of the magic. What I cherished most about my role at Disney was the opportunity to create magical moments for guests, whether it was serving up delectable treats at Sunset Ranch Market or helping them find the perfect souvenir along Hollywood Boulevard.
Moreover, experiencing the busiest times of the year at Disney's Hollywood Studios was both exhilarating and rewarding. Being proudly in charge of Jollywood Night, the very first time it opened at Walt Disney World, was a highlight of my time there. Learning how to captivate guests and provide them with unforgettable experiences during events like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the dazzling spectacle of Disney's holiday festivities was an invaluable lesson in creating moments of wonder and delight.
